What does each app feature actually cost?
App quotes are usually presented as one number, which makes them impossible to argue with. Broken down per feature, the same budget becomes a set of decisions you can actually make: in-app chat costs about AED 12,000 and ten developer-days — is that worth more than an admin dashboard at AED 15,000?
The prices here are the mid-points we quote from for a cross-platform build. They cover design, front-end, backend and testing for that feature — not just the screen. A feature is only done when it works with real data, handles the error cases, and has been tested on real devices.
The foundation you pay for before any feature
Every estimate here starts with roughly AED 14,000 of foundation work: project setup, design system, navigation, API layer, environment configuration, build pipelines and store submission. This exists whether your app has three features or thirty, and it is the line item most cheap quotes quietly omit.
On top of that sits integration and QA overhead, which grows with feature count rather than cost. Five features that each work perfectly in isolation still have to work together — and that testing is real work. The calculator adds 12% plus one point per feature to reflect it.
The features that surprise people
- In-app chat looks like a messaging screen and is actually real-time infrastructure: delivery states, presence, push integration, media handling and moderation.
- Offline mode is not caching. It is conflict resolution — deciding what happens when two devices edit the same record while disconnected.
- Roles and permissions touch every screen you have already built, which is why adding it late costs more than building it in.
- Arabic and RTL mirrors your entire layout. Doing it from the start costs a fraction of retrofitting it later — worth knowing for any UAE app project.
How to use this to cut your budget
Sort your list into three buckets. Needed to launch — the app is not usable without it. Needed to grow — referrals, analytics, loyalty. Nice to have — everything else. Build bucket one, ship, then use real usage data to decide whether bucket two is still the right bucket two.
Founders who do this typically cut 30–40% off their first estimate without losing anything users would have noticed. If you want the launch-only view, the MVP cost calculator prices the smallest credible build, and the timeline calculator shows how the schedule changes as features come off.
